About Laura
Language teacher, translator and garden enthousiast
I’m passionate about language.
It drives people apart, while having the power to bring people together. And that’s why you’re here. To connect with more people by learning or perfecting a new language.
My background is the English language and translation. I’ve always been obsessed by the puzzle of possibilities and pitfalls in translation. Whether it’s within one language or from one language into the other, there’s much to consider if you want a text to sound and feel right. As a trained and experienced professional, I solve this puzzle for you, so you can focus on the content.
On a more personal note, I love being surrounded by nature. In my spare time, I enjoy rummaging around in my small garden. Starting seeds and helping plants flourish. By planting a large variety of (native) species, I want my garden to be a home to all pollinators that buzz around my plants. Providing a wide variety of nectar is my small contribution to preserving them and our food chain. 🐝

APIARY
/ˈeɪ.pi.ə.ri/
A place where people keep bees
“What’s with all the bees and what does The Apiary have to do with translation?”
A lot!
Bees are the backbone of our ecosystem. We don’t often realise it, but without bees, there’s no food chain. They’re the unsung heroes of the world we live in. Good translations go unnoticed as well. People often realize the power of translation only when they read one that doesn’t make any sense.
Gardening is one of my very favourite hobbies, not in the least because of the joy of walking through a humming and buzzing garden.
Everyone needs a dream. Mine is to have an apiary. A luscious garden teeming with tiny golden creatures and an abundance of flowers, herbs and vegetables.
The more realistic of my dreams, working as an independent translator, has already come true, so what better way to remind myself of my next goal?
